Greater Manchester Police headquarters evacuated following false alarm

A Greater Manchester Police HQ building was evacuated this evening (September 24), following reports of a fire.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 10pm.

Several fire engines could be spotted outside of Central Park Police HQ, near Oldham Road.

It is understood custody suites were evacuated, along with police officers and staff working in the building after a fire alarm sounded.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the station was evacuated for a "short time" but it is now "fully operational again".

A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Fire service said that the 999 call turned out to be a 'false alarm'.

Pictures from the area show fire trucks behind the barriers at the entrance to the building.

A huddle of around 20 people, some who were dressed in neon police uniform with stab vests on and others in grey hoodies and casual clothes, can also be seen standing next to the fire truck.

Another photograph shows police cars also at the scene.

In another picture, a firefighter appears to be holding his helmet talking to the team leader on the site.

In a statement tonight, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the building is now back to being fully operational after the fire alarm went off.

The spokesperson said: "I can confirm that Central Park Police Station was evacuated for a short period after a Fire Alarm went off.

"GMFRS attended and confirmed no fire.

"All staff are back in the building and the station is fully operational again."
