Greater Manchester crash: Two dead after Vauxhall Astra hits road sign

Two men have died following a crash close to Bury in Greater Manchester.

The tragedy happened at 1.30am in Whitefield.

The Vauxhall Astra hit a road sign before colliding with a nearby wall, investigators said this morning.

One of the victims died at the scene, while the second was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later.

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: "A silver Vauxhall Astra had collided with a road sign, resulting in the car hitting a nearby wall.

"There were two men in the car, one man sadly died at the scene.

The second man was taken to hospital, but sadly died a short time after the crash (ASP)

"The second man was taken to hospital and despite the best efforts of emergency staff, was also sadly pronounced dead a short time later."
