Greater Manchester braced for FOUR more days of heavy rain and high winds

Rain and high winds are forecast to sweep across Greater Manchester for at least another four days following Storm Ciara.

Forecasters say there will be further showers and wind throughout Sunday night as residents deal with flooding across the region.

The Environment Agency has issued 31 flood warnings for Greater Manchester including six across Bolton, Rochdale and Bury.

An amber wind warning is in force until 9pm on Sunday evening and yellow weather warning of rain has also been issued by the Met Office until 6pm.

The poor weather could cause further misery for the next few days with more rain and wind forecast.

Gusts of up to 80mph are expected and showers will continue until at least Thursday.

Manchester Airport recorded an extremely strong gust of 86mph on Sunday morning.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Greater Manchester is in for a further wet and windy night on Sunday.

"Although it won’t be as bad as it was earlier today.

“It will continue to be very windy with showers returning around 5pm or 6pm tonight (Sunday). This will last most of the evening.

“There will be intense showers this afternoon and evening and further showers overnight and for the next few days - though these won’t be as intense as the rain on Sunday morning.

“We could even see some thunder and hail falling.”
