Tasmania has declared Greater Brisbane a high-risk area and anyone who's recently visited the region must isolate for two weeks from Friday.
The Queensland government on Friday imposed a three-day lockdown on the region after a cleaner at a quarantine hotel was diagnosed with the highly contagious UK variant of COVID-19.
"Any traveller arriving in Tasmania from today who has been in the Greater Brisbane area since 2 January will need to immediately quarantine for up to 14 days," Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein said.
"If they do not have a suitable premises they will be placed into a government quarantine hotel."
The Tasmanian government is sending an SMS with the advice to all recent arrivals from Greater Brisbane.
Greater Brisbane covers the council areas of Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Ipswich and Logan.
From 6pm Friday until 6pm Monday, residents of the area are required to stay at home except for essential work, exercise, essential shopping and to access healthcare or look after the vulnerable.
