Great white shark swims dangerously close to surfers

Without knowing it, surfers off a beach in Australia came dangerously close to a great white shark lurking nearby.

Five surfers were in the lineup off Tuncurry Beach north of Sydney when the shark lazily swam near the lineup, as captured in video last month by The Rogue Droner that just started getting online attention outside Australia on Monday.

The shark and surfers are seen together beginning at the 1:06 mark.

“The surfers were attempted to be warned with the drone,” The Rogue Droner, who didn’t want to be named, told USA Today/For The Win Outdoors. “This included low swoops. You can see one of these towards the end of the video with the two surfers and the shot of the surfer paddling away from the camera.

“Unfortunately, these attempts were unsuccessful. Thankfully surfers have become more aware of these warnings via drone.”

And in this case, fortunately the shark ignored the surfers.

The Rogue Droner also said four great white sharks were spotted at this same beach by the New South Wales DPI shark-spotting helicopter just prior to this video being made.
