A great white shark has been filmed lunging at a fishing boat and biting a whopping chunk out of it.
The heart-stopping encounter off the coast of Western Australia was caught on camera by a pair of stunned anglers.
Brothers Lee and Adam Ferguson were fishing for snapper off Carnac Island in Perth on Friday when they noticed the predator stalking their boat.
Adam had spotted what he thought was a “big fish” in the burley trail – bait dropped at intervals to lure fish close to anglers.
But it soon became apparent that it was a great white who wasn’t afraid to get up close and personal.
It ominously swam figure of eights around the boat for 15 minutes, with dramatic footage even showing it ramming the vessel and biting the motor, the Daily Star reports.
Instead of screaming in pure, unadulterated, terror, Lee shouted at the shark as if it were nothing but a pesky animal, saying: “Oi! Oi! Go away.”
He then dropped his GoPro – and hand – into the water to capture the shark up close in its natural habitat.
The result was breathtaking, with footage showing the beast’s jaw wide open and baring its razor-sharp teeth.
“There was a couple of times it got too close, I tried to give him a poke with the GoPro and couldn't budge him at all so yeah, very heavy, very strong,” Lee said.
The shark’s persistent attacks forced the brothers to pull up their anchor and sail away, but the remnants of the rampage were there for all to see.
The boat’s motor, ladder and transducer were all damaged in the attack.
Incredibly, Lee said he never felt unsafe around the shark despite placing his hand in the line of fire.
"That was uncomfortable,” he said.
"We didn’t feel in immediate danger though."
