Great sadness after death of 'inspirational' young Tipperary man Kevin Bourke following cancer battle

Tributes have been paid to a young Tipperary man who sadly passed away after a cancer battle this week.

Kevin Bourke, 30, had been bravely fighting an extremely rare form of cancer before his passing on Wednesday.

The Co Tipperary man was much loved in his community who had previously raised almost €100,000 for his treatment.

Before his diagnosis, Mr Bourke had travelled all over the world and had taught English in South Korea.

It was his dream, according to his  GoFundMe  page, to visit South America with friends if he became well enough.

Local clubs and friends paid tribute to Kevin on social media after the news of his death emerged.

Newport GAA club said: "It is with great sadness that the news of the untimely death of Kevin was received in Newport and the surrounding areas on Wednesday evening.

"Since his arrival in Newport as a fifteen-year-old, Kevin's outgoing and caring nature endeared him to many, not just among his peers, but also among the wider community.

"Having lined out with hurling and football teams in Roscrea, he quickly made his mark with his adopted club and went on to win North Tipp championship medals with Newport in Minor Football (2007) and Under 21 football (2010).

"On behalf of C.L.G. Tulach Sheasta we'd like to extend our deepest sympathies to his mother, Mary, brother, Ruairi, Mary's partner Ger and to the extended Bourke and Barry families. Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam uasal.

Roscrea GAA club, of which Kevin was a member, said: "Roscrea Hurling Club would like to offer its sincerest sympathies to Mary, Ruairi Ger, the Bourke family and all family and friends of Kevin. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam."

Funeral mass and burial takes place on Friday morning and can be streamed live online with crowds not allowed with Government guidelines.

A post on RIP.ie says: "Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday 22nd May at 11.30am in the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, Newport (restricted to family only) but can be viewed on www.twitch.tv. Search for NewportBirdhillandToor.

"Followed by burial in Rockvale Cemetery, Newport. For those wishing to pay their respects, please adhere to government guidelines."
