Great North Run sign goes up on Tyne Bridge to start countdown to big race

It is one of the city's most famous and proudest events and there now isn't long to go until the 2019 Great North Ru.

The world renowned half marathon will soon return for another year with all the available places snapped up in a ballot earlier this year.

The Newcastle - South Shields road race attracts competitive athletes and fun runners from right across the world and on Sunday, September 8, it will be the turn of this year's entrants to take on the 13.1 mile course.

One of the highlights for anyone taking part in the Great North Run is crossing the Tyne Bridge and, while sadly, the this year, the GNR sign has now taken pride of place on the iconic landmark.

The appearance of the sign starts the countdown for this year's race and there is now less than two months to go.
