'Great news, no point!' - Arsenal fans clash over what Unai Emery has said about Danny Welbeck

Unai Emery admission about a possible new contract for Danny Welbeck has got Arsenal supporters talking.

The forward's deal at the Emirates Stadium is up in June and given his injury status, it's unlikely that he will make another appearance between now and the end of the season.

However, the former Manchester United ace - who has been linked with moves to fellow London clubs Crystal Palace and West Ham - is back running again and probably hasn't given up hope of being available to head coach Unai Emery for the final weeks of the campaign.

football.london understands that the Gunners are targeting a wide player in the summer transfer window and have been linked with the likes of Nicolas Pepe, Ismaila Sarr and Ituano wonderkid Gabriel Martinelli.

But could the north London save some money in the summer window?

The Spaniard delivered a positive injury update on Welbeck and didn't rule out the possibility of the versatile forward extending his stay at the Emirates, revealing that the contract situation is a matter for the club.

"He's progressing very well, he’s working and starting to touch the ball, working on the pitch," Emery said . "His progress with a big injury is going very well.

"It's difficult [for him] to play matches in this season but now he's progressing very well and maybe the doctor says he can train or play with us in the last weeks of the season.

"His individual [contract] is to [be decided] with the club."

As expected, these comments have garnered a strong reaction on social media.
