Nottinghamshire day-trippers and holiday makers will soon be able to make the most of Skegness as caravan parks, pubs and amusements were giving the green light to reopen.
With the latest government changes to lockdown in England coming in on July 4, pubs, hairdressers, hotels, campsites, restaurants, cinemas, museums and galleries can open as long as they maintain social distancing and other strict measures.
Some leisure facilities and tourist attractions may also reopen, if they can do so safely – this includes outdoor gyms and playgrounds, theme parks and arcades, as well as libraries, social clubs, places of worship and community centres.
But hostels, soft play areas, indoor gyms, swimming pools and nightclubs all remain shut.
A leading councillor who helps run Skegness said it was "great news for the coast" to be able to welcome back more visitors and start to return to "a level of normality".
Skegness is a popular tourist spot for many Nottinghamshire residents who either own caravans on the coast, holiday there or just travel for the day.
Takeaway fish and chip shops have already reopened as people visited the beach, but much more of the coastal town will be opening up next month.
Councillor Steve Kirk, portfolio holder for coastal economy at East Lindsey District Council, told Nottinghamshire Live: “We know the past few months have been incredibly tough for many of the fantastic businesses we have on the coast.
"This is especially true for our many attractions, accommodation providers, bars and restaurants. The Government’s most recent announcement on the easing of lockdown sets out the process they can take to start re-opening.
"This is great news for the coast and means that we will be able to welcome back more visitors and start to return to a level of normality.
"I would of course ask that anybody visiting the area does continue to follow the most recent government guidance around social distancing and help ensure that everyone can enjoy our coast and stay safe.”
Blue Anchor Leisure Ltd, which runs 13 caravan sites across the Lincolnshire coast, has already revealed it intends to open its parks by July 4 – provided they can get everything in place to do so.
And Fantasy Island in Ingoldmells has announced it will be reopening both the Eastgate and Sunnymede caravan sites on Saturday, July 4 once again.
Butlin's has previously said it will be closed until July 16.
And in an announcement, the holiday firm said it is unable to commit to a reopening date as they wait for more information from the government which could affect the reopening of all it's facilities.
