Great news as Kilbarrack finally gets children's playground 'after 20 years of promises'

Dublin residents have expressed their delight at finally getting their much sought after children's playground after "twenty years of promises".

In the late 90s, the community of Kilbarrack came together to fight for a safe and designated space for their children to play in.

However, despite the best efforts from Kilbarrack Coast Community Programme (KCCP), nothing was ever done.

The group petitioned for years on social media in order to get their voices heard.

Their aim was simple: "With the abundance of Primary Schools and Early Childhood Settings in the locality, it is obvious that Kilbarrack is an area filled with young children.

"We need a space that is fully designated for these children to run, play and be free."

To their delight, the group kicked off the first day of October by announcing they had finally made their dream a reality after years of fighting.

They said: "KCCP is proud of the part we have played in securing this much needed community facility.

"We organised several community meetings to campaign for the playground and as a result of this, funding was secured and put in place and planning permission was sought."

The process took longer than the group had expected because one resident objected to the size of the proposed plan.

The group added: "Work recently commenced on the amended plan and after twenty years of campaigning, Kilbarrack now has a much-needed children’s playground.

"The playground may not be perfect and may need improvements but for a community that has been waiting for so long it is a great first step."

The work is nearing completion but residents are advised that if they have any suggestions on necessary improvements, to email info@kccp.net or ring Marian on 01-8324516.
