'Great news' as busy Bramcote road reopens 3 weeks after wall collapsed

Work to repair a wall which collapsed into the path of traffic has finished ahead of schedule.

Town Street, Bramcote Village, was closed at the corner where it meets Chilwell Lane after a small landslide caused a wall to collapse on Sunday, February 7.

As a result the road was closed between Cow Lane and Common Lane while Via East Midlands worked to repair the extensive damage.

Work was originally supposed to finish on February 19, and then again on February 26, but the reopening was delayed over the weekend.

However, on Sunday, February 28, what is commonly referred to as Devil's Bend (or Devil's Elbow to some) reopened to the delight of those who use it.

It reopened slightly ahead of its planned time of 11.59pm on Monday, March 1.

Councillor Richard MacRae, who represents Stapleford North, said: "It is great news that the works have been completed in Chilwell Lane just after Town Street in Bramcote.

"It is a busy route and any diversions put miles on to a journey which for people who live in the area, including Ivan at The White Lion who has been delivering meals to vulnerable people, it soon adds up.

"Now the road is open it means the Bus Route 18 can return to its original route which also means Children going to the local school don't have to find alternative transportation to and from School. It is great news all around."

With the route being a major for many motorists, residents in the area said recently they were making the most of the quieter road with most feeling positive about the repairs.
