Great Manchester Run 2021 confirms new dates - here's how to register

The Great Manchester Run is one of the biggest events in the city's calendar, attracting around 30,000 runners to pound the pavements every year.

This year's event is expected to go ahead with new dates, after last year's was regrettably cancelled.

The 2021 race will now take place in September, with entries opening soon.

Organisers had previously hoped that the event would return in May as normal, but have moved to a revised date due to the ongoing pandemic and restrictions.

The Great Manchester Run 2021 is now scheduled for Sunday September 26, with tens of thousands expected to run for a charitable cause, a personal fitness goal or even just for fun.

There are two distances available - a 10km run or a half-marathon.

Those who wish to take part can sign up to the reminder service at greatrun.org/great-manchester-run.

Now that the event has been postponed from its usual May date, it leaves a gap in the calendar, but organisers have launched virtual running challenges to help you keep moving.

One is the Run Away From 2020 challenge, with the aim to complete 21 activities (run, job or walk) of any distance in January.

Another is the Great Run Solo Distance Challenge, which is designed to keep you racking up the miles over a seven-day, or a 28-day period.

Those who take part can choose from seven miles, 50km, 100km or 150km and will be rewarded with a medal.
