Great-grandfather, 72, died following motorbike crash on A48 near Cowbridge

A man from Cardiff who died in a crash on the A48 was a "devoted" father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

The crash took place at 2.45pm on the A48 near Cowbridge on Tuesday, August 11.

On Tuesday the road was closed for a number of hours following the incident.

Now South Wales Police has confirmed Robert John Evans, 72, from Whitchurch in Cardiff died following the incident.

Mr Evans’ family has issued the following tribute: “Robert was originally from Barry but resides in Whitchurch, Cardiff.

"Robert was a devoted husband to Carole, father to Simon and Rachel, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle to his loving family.

“He was a kind and caring person, always willing to help anyone and could turn his hand to any task.

"He will be sorely missed by all and is irreplaceable.

“The family request to respect their privacy at this time”

The collision occurred on the A48 Forge Farm Roundabout, Cowbridge, when the motorcycle Mr Evans was riding collided with the roundabout.

As a result he was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries.

Mr Evans’ family continue to be supported by specially trained Roads Policing Family Liaison Officers.


South Wales Police Roads Policing Department is appealing for witnesses to the collision or the manner of riding of the green Triumph Tiger motorcycle prior to the incident.

Witnesses are urged to contact the police via 101 quoting occurrence 2000290842.
