Great-grandad killed in double fatality Drumcondra car smash named locally

The man killed in yesterday's horror Drumcondra car crash has been named locally.

Great-grandfather John 'Pops' Nulty (72) lost his life in the early morning collision on Drumcondra Road Lower.

Mum-of-two Rachel Coughlan (34) also died in the smash.

Mr Nulty, who was originally from Balbriggan , is understood to have been on his way to a hospital appointment when the crash happened.

A family friend told the Irish Independent: "I was his best friend for years. He's the type of person to give you the moon and the stars and expect nothing in return."

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his siblings.

Tragic Rachel was a mother to two young sons and has been remembered by family and friends on social media.

One touching tribute read: "Shocking. Look over your boys and all your family. Beautiful girl. RIP"

Local councillor Janice Boylan also led tributes and said it was "very sad news" for the north inner city community.

Tributes paid to mum-of-two killed in double fatality early morning crash in Drumcondra

She said: "Very sad and shocking news coming from the north inner city today. RIP Rachel. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. And of course RIP to the other man who died in the same collision."

While another person added: "My heart goes out to their families, all my thoughts and prayers were for them. R.I.P."
