Great British Menu chef to launch Birmingham restaurant

A finalist on hit TV show Great British Menu is launching his first restaurant in Birmingham city centre.

Kray Treadwell, who reached the finals of the BBC Two series in 2019, is opening 670 Grams in Digbeth later this year.

The restaurant, whose name is taken from his daughter's weight when she was born four months premature, will serve a ten-course tasting menu inspired by European and Asian cuisine.

Fit-out work is currently taking place in the unit at the Custard Factory with a planned launch of mid-June, subject to easing of coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

The 16-cover restaurant has been designed by Digbeth-based 2G Design & Build and will operate over two floors with a showcase open kitchen.

Solihull native Mr Treadwell previously worked at Michelin-starred pub The Hand and Flowers under the guidance of TV chef Tom Kerridge and Purnell's, one of Birmingham's quintet of Michelin-starred venues.

He said: "670 Grams will be a unique experience designed to attract all kinds of people.

"Ultimately, my aim is to bring my eclectic take on food to as many people as possible, without the stuffiness and pretension that fine dining can sometimes bring with it."
