Great British Bake Off viewers react after 'chaotic' Maggie forgets to put flour in dessert

Tuesday night's episode of The Great British Bake Off set social media alight after contestant Maggie forgot to put flour in her sticky toffee pudding.

It was dessert week in the tent, and the bakers were tasked with making a pavlova, a joconde sponge and, of course, a sticky toffee pudding.

Retired nurse and midwife Maggie didn't fully read the recipe that each contestant was given, and so didn't realise she was supposed to put flour in her sponge as the ingredient was listed on a separate piece of paper.

As a result, her sticky toffee puddings did not bake correctly and came out of the oven looking like shrivelled husks - and she was later eliminated from the competition.

Fans were quick to react to the incident, with many questioning how a baker could forget such a seemingly key ingredient.

"It's a sponge, Maggie! Why would you not put flour in?" one frustrated fan questioned.

Another wrote: "Maggie was bound to be kicked out the tent after that school boy errror! Which numpty bakes and forgets to put flour in though!!"

Many viewers found the humour in the situation, however, and commended Maggie for taking it in her stride - and even quipping to the judges that the failed puddings were "gluten-free".

One joked: "Maggie not putting flour in her puddings... while competing on The Great British Bake Off. An iconic disaster."

"Not Maggie claiming her sticky toffee puddings were purposefully gluten free," said another along with two laughing emojis.

"Maggie’s sticky toffee pudding may not have gone to plan, but she deserves a handshake for taking it in such good grace and humour," a third viewer commented.

Fans watching the show also once again had thoughts on the manner judge Paul Hollywood spoke to Maggie, after he questioned whether her showstopper bake was four hours worth of work.

"Paul is a bit rude when he speaks to Maggie," one wrote.

"I'm sorry but there is no need to talk to any contestant the way Paul spoke to Maggie, he knew exactly what she had done, and ergh, he is so rude," another frustrated fan wrote.
