Great British Bake Off viewers fume at Glasgow contestant James for 'villain arc'

Great British Bake Off viewers were left fuming with a Glaswegian contestant, after he failed to help out others who were making mistakes.

James admitted that he realised the other contestants were performing one of the baking skills wrong - called feathering - but chose not to say anything. This "snakey" move was noted by many viewers, who called the baker out for his actions.

One Twitter user wrote: "James admitting he realised the other contestants were doing the feathering wrong and not letting them know, that's just not in the spirit of the tent. #GBBO."

Another said: "Also sad that no one else in the tent said anything to either Syabira or Abdul. James acknowledged after that he could of said something but didn’t, that’s not the gbbo spirit!"

And a third wrote: "James admitting on camera to not helping out the others even though he could see them making a mistake #gbbo."

More comments read: "James saying he saw they were doing something that was incorrect but let them get on with it anyway. That’s not in the spirit of it. Has he ever seen the Bake Off before? #GBBO."

However, others praised James for his artistry in the tent, and had him pipped to win the entire competition so early on. One Twitter user said: "Our boy James killed it! That mask was AMAZING #GBBO."

Another wrote: "I can't wait to see more horror inspired bakes from James, legit I would have done a horror mask too tbh #GBBO."

More said: "I would give everything I have for James #GBBO."

One noted: "I think James may have won this week maybe #GBBO."

And finally, one concluded: "Not only did James make RACCOON macaroons but he also made a HORROR MOVIE style biscuit mask? A man after my own heart. WIN IT ALL, JAMES! #GBBO."

The Great British Bake Off returns next Tuesday, September 27 at 8pm on Channel 4.
