Great British Bake Off's Jurgen rises to be fan favourite as viewers predict winner

On your marks, get set...bake!

All's right with the world because The Great British Bake Off is back on our screens. The nation's beloved baking show aired its first episode of the season 12 on Tuesday (September 21) with a cast of 12 new hopeful bakers.

Hosted by Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas, Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith judged the bakers' treats as viewers got a chance to get to know this year's line up.

The home bakers were ready to prove and rise to the GBBO challenges that Paul and Prue set for them, with some being more successful than others.

While all the contestants are quickly starting to grow a fan group, one baker has stolen the show - and it's only episode one.

Jurgen the German from the Black Forest captured the viewers' heart as he proved his engineering abilities as well as skill with flavours.

And some are even calling him to win.

Taking to Twitter, many GBBO fans shared their support for the baker.

One said: "Jurgen is already my favourite #GBBO."

"I mean they’re all lovely this year but Jurgen has made my heart hurt and I want to cry," one Jurgen fan added.

"I love bake off! All caught up. Jurgen is my fave, I like Giuseppe, Freya and George too. Bring on Biscuit week!" said another,

"Protect Jurgen at all costs," another cried.

"Jurgen and Giuseppe own my entire heart and soul so if either of them don't get all the way to the final I will riot", one promised.

"Jurgen is gonna win this series," a fan predicted.

Viewers were also left feeling sorry for the baker at the end of the episode when he phoned his family.

The camera fixed onto Jurgen as the dial tone continued until he realised that there must be nobody at home.

Another fan has demanded that episode two starts with someone answering his call.

The Great British Bake Off continues at 8pm on Tuesdays on Channel 4.
