Great British Bake Off return date confirmed as Channel 4 show returns in two weeks

The start date for the new series of The Great British Bake Off has been confirmed and fans don't have long to wait at all.

The popular baking show will return to the small screen on Tuesday 21 September with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Taking to their official Twitter account, GBBO shared a snap of the pair alongside hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas.

In the photo, all four stars are holding white mugs which spell out: "Bake Off is back."

Fans were quick to reply to the tweet, and were very excited about Bake Off returning in less than a fortnight.

"So happy... Can't wait :)" one person tweeted, while another posted: "I look forward to finding out who'll be part of this year's #GBBO lineup."

A third person replied: "Thank goodness!! A light at the end of the tunnel!!"

And a fourth fan tweeted: "Bake Off is on in two weeks... i swear i never get excited over tv shows but omg i can't wait for this #GBBO."

The news comes after Channel 4 dropped a first look trailer of the upcoming 12th series.

The popular show was filmed earlier this year with the contestants and crew placed in a COVID-safe filming bubble.

A short trailer retweeted by Paul from the official Bake Off account, hears violins playing as a drone camera rises above some trees to show the famous giant white tent in the background.

Hilarious hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas are also returning for the upcoming 12th series (PA)

The clip was captioned: "Loaf is in the air...The Great British Bake Off. Coming Soon."

Paul teased on Twitter : “We’re back…! X”

And no doubt the strict 55-year-old judge will give the contestants a grilling if they don’t get their loaves or cakes up to his exacting standards.

The Great British Bake Off starts on Tuesday 21 September at 8pm on Channel 4.
