Great British Bake Off has paid tribute to the late star Luis Troyano who died earlier this month at the age of 48.

There were emotional scenes in tonight's GBBO finale after Peter Sawkins was announced as the show's youngest winner.

In the final credits, footage revealed what the competitors had been up to since the end of the show.

Just before Great British Bake Off finished for the year, producers paid an emotional tribute alongside image of Luis from his time on the show.

The Bake Off star, who had come runner up in the show in 2014, tragically passed away at the start of November 2020 following a battle with oesophageal cancer.

GBBO viewers were touched by the memorial, and took to social media to reflect upon the emotional moment.

"I cried too!!! Especially at the dedication to Luis Troyano at the end. Peter is such a deserved winner," wrote one viewer.

"The Dave’s new baby, the dedication to everyone this year and finally the in memory of Luis Troyano from series 5," penned another.

Many other viewers reflected upon their favourite memory of Luis on the show.

A third said: "I just saw the tribute to the wonderful @luistroyano at the end of @BritishBakeOff. I’ll never forget your baked colliery in honour of #poynton! Your empanadas were the best!

"Held it together until the photo of @luistroyano," added a fourth.

Luis shot to fame with his baking talents six years ago, when he paid an incredible tribute to his hometown of Poynton in Stockport during one of his impressive showstopper bakes.

Following his GBBO stint, Luis went on to enjoy lots of success because of his baking and he had even opened his first bakery in his hometown called The Hive Bakery.

In April 2020, Luis revealed that he had undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumour and was recovering from the procedure.

Sadly, he lost his battle with cancer just over half a year later.

It was an emotional grand finale tonight that saw Peter become the show's youngest ever winner.
