Great British Bake Off looking for Scots bakers to take part in next year's show

The timer is ticking for any amateur Scots bakers who hope to emulate the success of Peter Sawkins in The Great British Bake Off.

Producers are urging people north of the border to get involved in the next series after the show's youngest ever contestants proved to be one of its biggest hits.

With tonight's final of the popular Channel 4  programme looming, there is just under two weeks left to get names in the hat for season 12.

Bake Off has been providing fans with a bit of light relief amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Student Peter, 20, from Edinburgh, has regularly wowed the judges and built up an army of followers on social media after showstoppers including a hero-themed bake based on Sir Chris Hoy, and bread featuring the skyline of his home city.

And with the 11th series of the show coming to its conclusion, the wheels are already in motion to kickstart next year’s edition.

Bosses behind the show have put out a casting call for those who think they could earn a Star Baker award.

Do you reckon you have what it takes to get that handshake from  Paul Hollywood? And could your plans for a showstopper wow Prue Leith?

Applications have now opened to apply for the 12th series - but you’ll have to express your interest soon, as it will close on Sunday, December 6.

A spokesperson for The Great British Bake Off team said: “We’re looking for the next batch of bakers for the twelfth series of The Great British BakeOff.

“If you or someone you know is a star baker in the making, then apply now.

“We are closely monitoring the situation regarding  Covid-19  and we are following the advice of Public Health England. As a result, we may adjust how or when we carry out auditions. The safety and welfare of everyone involved in our productions is always paramount.”

Noel Fielding has nicknamed Edinburgh-based accountancy student Peter “the baby-faced assassin”.

His opponents in the final tonight are Laura Adlington and Dave Friday.
