Great British Bake Off: Glasgow contestant James praised for Scottish attire

The Great British Bake Off returned on Tuesday night for the first episode of its 13th series, which saw 12 new contestants enter the iconic tent.

Among the bakers are Lanarkshire music teacher Kevin and Cumbria nuclear scientist James, who grew up in the east end of the Glasgow, before moving to England after university.

The Glasgow lad is a self-described board game geek, and admitted he is a huge fan of horror films from the 70s and 80s.

The premiere saw the contestants bake mini sandwich cakes, a red velvet sponge for the Technical, and a 3-D replica of their favourite home made out of cake.

Many viewers took to social media after seeing what Glasgow lad James was wearing. The scientist donned a kilt, and people were quick to comment on the attire on Twitter.

One said: "Sticky Toffee Sponges… James is the one! Scottish accent and kilt too…"

"Glasgow James from #gbbo also gets my vote," a second revealed.

"JAMES IS WEAING A KILT F**K YES," a third exclaimed.

A fourth predicted: "Ah James is gonna go far".

"James baking while wearing a kilt," said a fifth alongside a heart emoji, while a sixth commented: "James just seems so wholesome."

Meanwhile, a seventh shared: "I adore James our wee Scottish baker."
