Great British Bake Off fans thrilled as Leeds Kim-Joy crowned winner of New Year special

Great British Bake Off fans were pleased to see fan favourite Kim-Joy crowned as the winner of the New Year special.

Channel 4 treated viewers with a New Year’s Day special with former famous faces who returned to compete one more time.

Kim-Joy was among those who returned alongside other past bakers which included Hermine, Rowan, and Jon.

The stars battled it out with their sweet treats in attempts to wow judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith one more time.

Kim-Joy is well known for her adorable and colourful bakes and yet again she managed to pull it out of the bag and came first on the technical challenge.

As well as producing a cosy winter scene made out of biscuits for her show-stopper.

Her creations proved to be quite a hit with Judge Paul Hollywood describing Kim-Joy as a “worthy winner,” while Prue Leith added: “Everything she does is exquisite.”

It’s safe to say Kim-Joy was more than happy to be crowned winner as she told fans her celebration would include having some mulled wine and a dance.

The show was pre recorded and during the episode Kim-Joy Tweeted: “Watching it back and my reaction is STILL that it’s SO WEIRD but exciting though!!”

The star first stole the hearts of viewers when she appeared on series nine of the baking show in 2018.

Her bakes impressed the judges that she made it all the way to the end however Rahul Mandal was crowned the winner with Kim-Joy falling in second place.

The New Year Bake Off followed the Christmas special, which saw the star of It’s A Sin, Olly Alexander, who recently hosted BBC’s New Years Eve show.

As well as Lydia West, Nathaniel Curtis and Shaun Dooley who all competed for star baker.

In the end it was Nathaniel who won the show.

As Leeds Kim-Joy won the New Years Eve special fans were delighted and went straight to Twitter to share their excitement.

@Dizz_zey Tweeted: “Congratulations. Such a well deserved winner. All of the contestants are so talented, but your attention to detail is incredible.”

@pethers_karl commented: “Congratulations to you Kim-Joy! Your bakes are always stunning.”

@SusanMargison wrote: “Well done Kim-joy u deserve it with your showstopper with amazing animals in the shadow.”

And @zoisiab added: “Well done! and lovely to see you back on the telly.”
