Great British Bake Off fans thrilled as Giuseppe Dell’Anno wins Channel 4 show

The Great British Bake Off has crowned its winner - with Giuseppe Dell’Anno taking the crown.

Fans were thrilled to find out the engineer took home the top prize on the Channel 4 show after an impressive final performance, which saw him wow the judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with an incredible and intricate showstopper.

For the showstopper challenge, Giuseppe thrilled Paul and Prue with a stunning bake in keeping with the Mad Hatter's tea party theme.

Giuseppe - who beat friends Chigs Parmar and Crystelle Pereira to the crown - was overjoyed to have won and he had a huge smile on his face as he was presented with the iconic Bake Off trophy.

Fans took to social media to congratulate the baker on his win.
"Giuseppe is truly an extraordinary baker! He’s been so consistent throughout most of the series #GBBO

#GBBOFinal," one wrote.
Another added: "Well that was just the best #GBBO ever. Loved them all but Giuseppe had to win."
"A deserving winner indeed! Well done to Giuseppe! I just adore the #GBBO such happy TV," a third shared, with a fourth adding: "Giuseppe what a deserving winner! It meant so much to him, what an absolute gent. Delighted."

Before the final, Giuseppe - who hails from Italy - explained how his Star Baker award helped him through the tougher weeks.

"I certainly relaxed a little after the first Star Baker: I felt like I already got much more than I was hoping for, so I had nothing left to prove to myself," he said.

"I was overwhelmed by emotions in both cases [when he got a famous Paul Hollywood handshake], in bread week and patisserie, but I must admit that getting recognition for a focaccia based on flavours and ingredients that were so closely linked to my family members and my own heritage was very powerful."

The dad-of-three explained how the show has also brought him great friends in Chigs and Crystelle.

"You always hear these stories of wonderful friendships being born in the tent. And I must admit that the cynical part of me has always wondered how genuine they were," he revealed.

"Well, it turns out: very! I have never felt so close and in-tune with anybody I had only just met like I did with my fellow bakers."

Last week, Jürgen Krauss crashed out of the competition just a week before the final, after a showstopper disaster.

After his exit, he said: "I feel kind of ok, I kind of saw it coming, I think the others are more shocked than I am. It has been incredible and I have really enjoyed being here. I have made friends for life, and I will be with them in spirit."
