Great British Bake Off: Did Giuseppe win because he kissed Noel's spatula?

Giuseppe Dell'Anno has been crowned Bake Off champion, making him the first Bristolian to win the show.

It was a tense finale tonight (Tuesday, November 23) as Giuseppe, Chigs and Crystelle were asked to bake carrot cake, Belgian buns and a showstopper fit for a Mad Hatters tea party.

Giuseppe came last in the technical round, but wowed the judges with a chocolate and hazelnut tear and share and mini mango pannacotas which saw him win the competition.

But despite him showing off his incredible baking skills, fans think his victory might be down to something else.

During the showstopper round, host Noel Fielding approached the bakers asking them to kiss his spatula.

“This is Mr Spatula. You just have to kiss his head and then you win," he said.

Chigs and Crystelle rejected the strange request, but Giuseppe gave it a peck to Noel's delight.

Some fans are convinced the "magical spatula" actually works after Giuseppe was crowned champion.

"Giuseppe had to win," one viewer wrote. "He was the only one who kissed Noel's spatula."

"Omg kissing the spatula actually worked!!!!"

"Just remember it was all in the spatula that worked for Giuseppe in the end. What will we do without bake off now, it is sad," another said.

Even the official Bake Off account is certain kissing Mr Spatula was the secret behind Giuseppe's success.

It said: "What was the secret to Giuseppe winning Bake Off? Great determination, great skills, great perseverance… and MR SPATULA!"

But it's been an amazing series for Giuseppe, winning star baker multiple times and countless amounts of the all-important Hollywood handshake, it's probably more likely it is his undeniable talent that really won the show.

And there's good news for his millions of fans after it's been hinted on Twitter that Giuseppe will release a cook book along with his dad.

When winning tonight's show, Giuseppe dedicated his success to his parents in a heartwarming speech.

He said: "All I can think of is the reaction I'm going to get from my mum and dad. The fact that everything I've done to deserve this comes from his heritage, I think it's going to be the best 'thank you' not I could possibly send him.

"He's going through a very hard time, healthwise, so I think this is going to be a boost."
