Great British Bake Off contestant 'tricked into revealing winner early', according to reports

A Great British Bake Off contestant reportedly revealed the winner of the competition after being misled by a fake account.

The Sun claims Ruby Bhogal, who has reached the show's semi-finals, believed she was direct messaging Sandi Toksvig when she said she was "very happy" with the chosen winner.

However, the messages were, in fact, reportedly being sent by a man who had set up a fake profile of the television host in order to trick Bhogal into revealing the show's secrets. The fake account has since been suspended.

The 26-year-old hoaxer said: "It’s actually pretty easy to do really. You just make a fake profile of one of their friends and then they follow you. You then change your name and message them and they have no clue."  The Sun did not share details of who Bhogal reportedly revealed as the winner.

Bhogal will compete in the semi-final alongside fellow contestants Kim-Joy, Rahul, and Briony. You can catch up with the five biggest talking points from last week's episode here

Last year, judge Prue Leith mistakenly revealed Bake Off's winner on Twitter before the episode had aired. She later wrote: “I am so sorry to the fans of the show for my mistake this morning, I am in a different time zone and mortified by my error.”

Channel 4 has declined to comment on the matter.
