Great British Bake Off: Amelia admits she didn't 'rise to challenge' of Bread Week as she is eliminated

Amelia has compared being eliminated from The Great British Bake Off to a break up and admitted she didn’t “rise to the challenge” of Bread Week.

The sportswear designer became the third contestant to be kicked off the Channel 4 show after failing to impress the judges with her scored bread and her burgers in the technical.

Being sent home by Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith on Tuesday night’s episode, Amelia said exiting the tent has felt like the end of a relationship.

She said: "The whole process of leaving the tent felt a bit like a break up. The sadness, the denial, a bit of it's not you it's me, so you have to remind yourself it's still an amazing achievement."

Amelia said she knew bread would be a weakness, saying: "It's no surprise to me that I left on Bread Week, it's never been my strength. I didn't rise to the challenge of bread week exactly, but I literally had so much fun.

"I tried my best and I would like to think that I've proved I'm a good baker."

Hollywood said of her efforts: "Amelia is a decent baker and it showed in her showstopper - her idea was sound enough but it just wasn't executed very well, and she struggled in the signature."

Her departure came on the day Michael become the first Great British Bake Off contestant to earn a Hollywood handshake this series.

His crimson chilli tear-and-share for Bread Week impressed Hollywood with its detailed patterning and complex taste.

He told him: "I like it. And I will tell you why I like it - because I have never seen anything like it before."

Amelia, however, put too much paprika in her tear-and-share, prompting a coughing fit from fellow judge Prue Leith.
