Part of Great Ancoats Street was closed overnight as police responded to an incident.
Police were called to a report of concern for the welfare of a man at a premises on Spear Street in the city centre at around 11.30pm on Wednesday.
Witnesses reported seeing a man on the wrong side of a balcony overlooking Great Ancoats Street.
Road closures were put in place while emergency services attended the incident.
A man, aged 30, was later brought safely into the care of the ambulance service and arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
Great Ancoats Street was closed between Newton Street and Oldham Road for several hours but has since reopened.
