British artist Grayson Perry is known for his ceramic vases, brightly coloured artworks and cross dressing. Now a major survey of his works is presented for the first time in the southern hemisphere, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
The Turner Prize–recipient is one of the best known British artists of his generation. He has appeared regularly on television, at a school art studio with the Duchess of Cambridge and his recent portrait exhibition drew record crowds to London’s National Portrait Gallery.
He works with sculpture, drawing, print and tapestry, and infuses his work with a sly humour and strong autobiographical elements (including references to his alter ego, Claire). Highly decorated pots tell stories of the royal family, warfare, sexual fantasy and his personal life.
