Jan. 13--Grayslake Community High School District 127 is looking for community members interested in filling an open seat on its school board.
District 127 board member Suzanne Swanson resigned from the board earlier this month due to personal reasons after seven years as an "outstanding" board member, Superintendent Catherine Finger said in a statement.
"I will miss her insight, passion, and thoughtful questions," Finger said.
Swanson could not immediately be reached for comment.
According to the school board's policies, the open seat must be filled within 45 days, Finger said.
Anyone interested in applying should send a letter describing their reasons for wanting to serve on the board and history of civic involvement to Finger, at Grayslake Community High School District 127, 400 N. Lake Street in Grayslake. The deadline is Jan. 22, according to an announcement on the district's website.
The school board will interview candidates during a special meeting on Jan. 27, which will not be open to the public, Finger said.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens over 18 who are registered voters and have lived in District 127 for at least one year.
Finger credited Swanson with helping bring in new curriculum initiatives including Project Lead the Way, expansion of the district's AP course offerings and social-emotional wellness programs, and expanding use of educational technology.
"The D127 Board of Education, administration and staff join me in expressing our gratitude for her excellent service, and in wishing her well as she pursues other interests," Finger said.
