'Grave fears' for missing teenager after high-speed police chase

The SUV was found at Secret Rocks four days after Mr Redman went missing.

Police say they hold "grave fears" for a wanted Adelaide teenager who went missing after a high-speed police chase on a rural South Australian highway almost two weeks ago.

Scott John Redman, 19, is believed to have been the passenger in a black Kia Sorento which was being pursued on the Eyre Highway near Kimba at about 3:50pm on Saturday, April 21.

Police terminated the chase a short time after it began, and said the SUV then turned onto a dirt road.

The alleged driver was arrested two days later in Whyalla, and police believe he hitchhiked there from the Middleback Range.

Police have carried out searches in the area and found the SUV at a spot known as Secret Rocks, about 40 kilometres east of Kimba, on Wednesday, April 25.

Inspector Mark Hubbard said police have been monitoring Mr Redman's social media and held "grave fears for his wellbeing".

"The reality is, Scott doesn't want to necessarily be found," he said.

"The overriding concern at this time is for his welfare.

"The area in which we have been searching is rural and isolated. It is possible that Mr Redman has also caught a lift with someone, but we have no evidence of that at this time."

Police have questioned the driver of the vehicle, and Inspector Hubbard said Mr Redman's family, friends and acquaintances have not heard from him.

He did not go into detail about why Mr Redman was wanted in the first place, and is not ruling out foul play.

But police said Mr Redman was not being treated as a danger to the public.

Inspector Hubbard said it was possible he had travelled interstate.

Anyone with information has been urged to call the police assistance line on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
