Grave concerns for man missing in Eyre Peninsula waters

South Australian police say they hold grave concerns for a man in his 50s who went missing after a boat he was in capsized on Friday night.

The small aluminium boat overturned in waters off Hall Bay on the Eyre Peninsula, between Coffin Bay and Elliston on the state's west coast.

One man and two boys managed to swim to shore, but a 57-year-old man is still missing.

There was an immediate ground and air search for the man on Friday night, which resumed on Saturday to no avail.

The search has now entered its third day.

Superintendent Michael Ball said the local community was extremely worried.

"I think any incident like this in a small community such as the Cummins district is going to affect a lot of people so our thoughts go out to them," Superintendent Ball said.

"Like we said, we do hold some grave concerns for the man's welfare."

Superintendent Ball said the search had so far been hampered by bad weather.

"There are some reef and rocky areas so it is hard going, the weather conditions will hopefully improve [Sunday] afternoon and into Monday so we will continue on those days."
