'Grateful to be here': Dubbo crash victim describes horror

Jhamaine Reid had cuts and bruises to his face following the crash.

A survivor of a multi-vehicle crash near Dubbo in central west New South Wales says he remembers being pulled from his car following the collision that left two dead and 10 others injured.

Jhamaine Reid was in a car with his family when a semi-trailer carrying concrete barriers allegedly ploughed into a line of traffic stopped at roadworks about 20 kilometres north of Dubbo on Tuesday.

"It was such a tragic day. I can't imagine, the family, how they are feeling," Mr Reid said.

"I am just grateful to be here. Bloody oath."

NSW Police said they believed four cars, a B-double truck and utility vehicle were stopped at a roadworks site when they were hit from behind by the semi-trailer.

An 18-year-old man was freed from his car and another person was freed from a truck after being trapped for more than four hours.

Mr Reid, who was visiting from Sydney, said he was travelling to Dubbo for a day of shopping.

However the 20-year-old cannot recall the impact.

"I don't actually remember the actual collision, but I remember a guy walking past, a by-passer, he pulled over and he grabbed me out of the car and said 'mate, jump out'," Mr Reid said.

Mr Reid said the first thing he did was rescue his two-year-old niece from the wreckage.

"She was crying. [I] automatically got her out, had to get her out," he said.

Of the 10 people injured, Mr Reid said his niece was one of the first to leave hospital.

"We've all got cuts and bruises, but she's fine," Mr Reid said.

The two Bathurst university students killed in the crash were identified yesterday as Gilgandra local Hannah Ferguson, 19, and her 21-year-old boyfriend Reagen Skinner.

The university has offered its sympathies, and said it was offering counselling to staff and friends of the students.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
