'Grass isn't always greener' - Arsenal fans in agreement following Samir Nasri announcement

Arsenal fans have once again started the debate over Samir Nasri, with the Frenchman having announced his retirement from football.

The former Gunner, who was most recently with Belgian side Anderlecht, confirmed his decision to retire in an interview with JDD.

He said: "It [move to Anderlecht] didn't go as planned. Then the Championship was stopped because of the Covid. Afterwards, I didn't necessarily want to [continue playing]. No challenge kicked me. And I couldn't see myself coming back to France if it wasn't for OM."

Of course, the announcement over Nasri ’s decision has got Arsenal fans talking, who still feel particularly scorned at the Frenchman’s exit from the Emirates Stadium.

After joining the club from Marseille in 2008, the midfielder went on to become a key member of the squad under Arsene Wenger and netted 15 goals in all competitions during his final season.

He then departed for Manchester City, citing trophies as one of his motivating factor for his exit - an aspect that has irritated Gunners fans since.

Nasri stayed at the Etihad Stadium for five years and has since played for Sevilla, Antalyaspor, West Ham United and Anderlecht.

Arsenal fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Nasri and his news.

In all, Nasri played 125 games in total for Arsenal and scored 27 games.

He retires at the age of 34 having not played a professional game since October 2019.

The former midfielder also made 41 appearances on the international stage with France, making his final outing for Les Bleus in 2013.
