A grass fire at Karuah that brought Pacific Highway traffic to a standstill on Monday afternoon has been extinguished.
The fire, which began after a caravan blew a tyre, was burning near Mines Hill Trail.
It halted southbound traffic and one lane remained closed for more than an hour as crews from both Fire and Rescue NSW and the NSW Rural Fire Service worked to contain the blaze.
Traffic was still heavy through the area early on Monday evening.
Motorists were advised to allow extra travel time and exercise caution.
