Graph shows Ireland's remarkable progress in curbing Covid-19 surge

Ireland is still battling through its third lockdown as the country continues to adapt to the Level Five restrictions that are set to be in place for some time.

We are now six weeks into the restrictions and are facing them until March 5 at least following the extension of Level Five following the unprecedented Covid surge over Christmas.

Ireland saw an alarming jump in cases over the Christmas period and at one point we were seeing thousands and thousands of cases a day.

While there is still a high level of infection across the country, Ireland has made remarkable progress in bringing down the spread of Covid-19.

A graph of daily Covid-19 cases here show's just how high daily infections during the latest peak with 6,532 cases being reported on January 10.

The graph shows the impressive change in the spike which has dropped dramatically in the following weeks hitting around 1,000 cases each day.

Top immunologist Professor Luke O'Neill shared the graph on social media saying: "Ireland has turned around one of the biggest spikes in Covid19 cases in the world."

On Wednesday Ireland saw another 1,013 confirmed cases of coronavirus while tragically 94 new deaths were reported.

Ireland's death toll has sadly also climbed dramatically following the recent surge with a total of 3,512 Covid-19 related deaths here.

Currently restrictions are in place until March 5 however it is likely they will be extended far beyond then in a bid to further crush the spread of the virus here.
