Graph shows Covid-19 cases are falling in our boroughs as they rise elsewhere in the UK

Coronavirus infection rates are falling across the Liverpool City Region, but remain well above the national average.

Both Liverpool and Knowsley have shown significant drops in the number of new Covid-19 cases since the second week of October while other boroughs have remained roughly stable over the same period.

However, while the UK’s overall infection rate continues to increase, it is still well below the levels seen in Wirral, the city region borough with the lowest infection rate.

The UK’s infection rate for the week up to October 24 was 225 cases per 100,000 people, while in Wirral it was 302.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Knowsley remains the hardest hit borough in the region, but its infection rate has fallen from a high of 730.5 cases per 100,000 residents on October 9 to 582 on October 24.

Liverpool has seen a faster decline in cases over the same period, from 692.3 cases per 100,000 people to 487.1, but its infection rate is still almost double the national average.

Only St Helens ’ infection rate is higher than it was on October 9, but cases still appear to be declining in the borough and it seems likely to drop below that level soon.
