Community groups in every federal seat across the country will share in a $10.2 million program to help them install solar panels, batteries and more efficient fridges to save money on their energy bills.
The Powering Communities Program was announced in last year's federal budget but Energy Minister Angus Taylor will visit Tasmania on Tuesday to lay out the details of it.
The program will fund up to 12 projects worth a total of $67,700 in each federal electorate, with grants of between $5000 and $12,000 available to eligible community organisations, and no co-contribution required.
The grants will be available for a wide range of projects including installing solar panels or a battery, upgrading air conditioners, hot water systems or a refrigerator with more efficient models, replacing lighting with LEDs or conducting an energy audit.
"Energy bills are often one of the biggest overheads for not-for-profit organisations," Energy Minister Angus Taylor said.
He said many clubs and groups had done it tough during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Federal MPs will work with local committees to identify projects through an expression of interest process.
Applications will open on July 1 and close on September 20.
