YouTube star Grant Thompson has died in a paragliding accident aged 38, his family has said.
According to TMZ, Thompson’s body was recovered early on Tuesday morning in St George, Utah, after his family filed a missing person’s report when he did not return home on Monday evening.
“It is with great sadness to inform everyone that Grant Thompson passed away last night,” read a statement on The King of Random Instagram page. “Grant’s legacy will live on in the channel and the global community he created.”
Thompson created his channel in January 2010 and had more than 11 million subscribers. His posts were typically experimental videos about quirky projects, with one “How to make LEGO gummy candy!” – receiving more than 26 million views.
The tribute post urged fans to “do a random act of love or kindness today in honour of the King of Random.”
“Grant’s legacy will live on in the channel and the global community he created,” the post concluded.
A video tribute to Thompson was also posted by his family, and has already been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.
