Transport Secretary Grant Shapps 'empathises' with thousands of Brits who are currently on holiday in Spain and will now need to quarantine on their return to the UK.
The UK government dramatically took Spain off its 'air bridge' list from midnight.
It mean all travellers returning from the country now need to self isolate for 14 days.
The FCO also updated its travel advice urging Brits against all but essential travel to mainland Spain.

It left thousands of Brits in holiday chaos with many being forced to cancel their holidays or even cut them short.
In an extraordinary twist, the Transport Secretary was caught out by his own rules after travelling to Spain himself and will now have to quarantine on his return.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab spoke to Mr Shapps yesterday afternoon and told Sky's Sophie Ridge: "I think it shows you the risk for everyone.
"I spoke to Grant Shapps yesterday afternoon and it shows you that we've got swift measures that we can put in place."
Sophie asked Mr Raab: "What mood was he in?
Mr Raab replied: "Like anyone I think he empathises with many other people going through that but he recognised of course, we as the decision makers recognise that we have to take these measures to protect the country.
"As we come through easing of the lockdown we've always said, you look at the strategy, you look at what we said all along, we need to be able to take targeted measures when there is a flare up of the virus and being able to do it in a localised way stops us having to do it in a nationwide way."
