Melbourne hooker Harry Grant is in doubt for NRL round one with a medial ligament injury after copping a knock in a trial match.
The Storm gun will be assessed on Monday after coming from the field unassisted in the second half of Saturday's 30-10 win over Newcastle at Albury Sportsground.
The 23-year-old went in to make a tackle but caught a blow to the knee and came from the field soon after.
If confirmed as a minor injury after scans on Monday, Grant could be available for the season-opening clash with South Sydney on March 11 at AAMI Park.
However, should coach Craig Bellamy could opt for a conservative approach, Brandon Smith will come into the starting side in the No.9 jersey to face the Rabbitohs.
It comes as the two battle it out to replace former skipper Cameron Smith as the club's main No.9 from this season.
Grant appeared to have won the race for the starting job ahead of the New Zealand Test hooker, who is expected to work in substitute from the bench this year.
