Socceroos right-back Rhyan Grant admits his national team commitments may scupper his chance to help Sydney FC create A-League history.
Sydney are aiming to become the first team to win three consecutive A-League championships, with Grant chasing a fourth career title.
The competition's finals however are slated for June, and a potential clash with the Socceroos' final games of their second stage of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.
FIFA has created a window for the matches against Taiwan and Jordan to be played between June 1 and 15 and Grant admits he'd face a tough situation if the matches coincide with the pointy end of Sydney's A-League season.
"I didn't realise it might clash with the finals but I think we've just got to approach it as it comes - cross that bridge when we get there," Grant told AAP.
"Obviously playing for your country is the highest honour so it'd be great to represent Australia if I got to do that but in saying that, if we're in the finals it'll be a tough one.
"I think there's an agreement with (Football Australia) and the clubs anyway that when you're selected you go away with the national team but hopefully it doesn't come to that where it clashes with one over the other.
"Hopefully I can play in every game that I'm available for and do a good job."
As Australia's first-choice right-back, Grant is an automatic Socceroos squad selection if fit but admitted it would be difficult to potentially miss out on making history with Sydney FC.
"I obviously want to be a part of that," he said.
"Sydney's my club. I've obviously been there for a long time, and want to create history with them and play every game possible and contribute to winning another premiership and championship," he said.
"But I think when it comes to playing for the Socceroos, that's the highest honour and if I'm selected then, I think, the way it works with the A-League is you go away with the national team."
Graham Arnold's side are in a strong position to qualify as they have already collected a maximum 12 points from four games to lead the group.
