Grant for press freedom watchdog

The International Press Institute has been awarded a $200,000 grant (£125,000) by the New York-based Ford Foundation to support IPI's core mission.

It will enable IPI to continue its work in three key areas - the promotion of high journalistic standards; the promotion of investigative reporting on corruption, especially in relation to development aid; and the promotion of understanding among journalists in countries in conflict.

It follows last month's announcement of IPI's partnership with Google, in which the search engine agreed to provide a grant of $2.7m (£1.7m) to sponsor a news innovation contest.
