Grant Delpit: “Getting ready for week 1” the priority

The Cleveland Browns have a lot to play for this season and keeping as many of their top players healthy is the primary goal this offseason. After missing all of his rookie campaign, safety Grant Delpit was limited by the team’s training staff early in training camp then hurt his hamstring.

Concern continues to linger as Delpit is expected to be a part of a trio of starting safeties along with holdover Ronnie Harrison and free-agent addition John Johnson III. Cleveland hopes that the three, together on the field, will give them the versatility to cover the dynamic offenses in the league.

Delpit was expected to come in and start at free safety for the Browns as a rookie. His injury caused Andrew Sendejo to play a lot more than appropriate for his age and skill level while also, seemingly, leading to the trade for Harrison.

The former LSU safety understands the concern but noted that the priority starts with the Kansas City Chiefs:

While Delpit is correct, especially in the extended 17 game season, it will be helpful if the entire defense is available to practice together during training camp. With the New York Giants in town for joint practices, it will be interesting to see how Cleveland allows Delpit and others coming back from injuries to practice.
