Gransha Park fire treated as arson as two teenagers arrested

Two teenagers have been arrested following a fire at a derelict school on Saturday night which police are treating as arson.

50 firefighters were called to the scene on the outskirts of Derry city last night at a former school in Gransha Park at approximately 10.50pm.

Police have since arrested a male aged 17, and a female, also aged 17, on suspicion of arson and they both remain in custody this morning.

Chief inspector Jonny Hunter said: "I am appealing to anyone who has information about this fire to call us on 101, quoting reference number 2117 of 20/06/20.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Spokesperson said: "Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue service received a call at approximately 22:49hrs to a report of a fire involving a derelict school building. There are currently 6 pumping appliances and 5 specialist appliances with approximately 50 firefighters at the scene, including a command support unit and an aerial appliance."
