Granny's Christmas pressies stolen during house raid while she worked in care home

A granny has been left heartbroken after thieves broke into her home and stole Christmas presents intended for her family.

The lady was hard at work in a care home when the crooks made off with her belongings - including irreplaceable jewellery belonging to her late mum.

Outraged family friend Lucy Riddle says the incident has devastated the victim, who doesn't want to be named.

She told the Rutherglen Reformer: "It's horrible what happened. She's really upset.

"Her mum passed away when she was young and it meant a lot to her to have them."

Lucy has set up a JustGiving page to try and help her friend salvage what she can from Christmas.

She added: "She loves her grandkids and had wanted them to have nice presents.

"It looks like they broke into the bedroom and just snatched the presents as they were all bagged and ready to go. They've grabbed the jewellery and left the place in a complete mess.

"She works in a care home and it's sick she's out there helping others and people do that."

Police described the raid last Tuesday, December 8 in Rutherglen's Gilmour Cresent as "abhorrent".

Inspector Stephen McManus said: ""The response to this abhorrent crime has been overwhelming, with a number of calls made to Crimestoppers providing vital information and we are following a positive line of enquiry."
