Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has ruled out re-signing Granit Xhaka saying it could "damage" his club.
Xhaka came to blows with the Gunners supporters during Sunday's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace after his number was called at the Emirates.
Fans cheered the substitution before booing the Swiss off the pitch. He reacted by cupping his ears and swearing before ripping off his Gunners shirt and storming down the tunnel.
Unai Emery has called on Xhaka to apologise to the fans but he is yet to do so and is said to be "devastated" by the turn of events.
Eberl, the sporting director at Xhaka's former club Monchengladbach, was asked about the prospect of re-signing the midfielder following his spat with Arsenal fans.
He told Sportbuzzer, via SportWitness: "Of course, as a player, I could always picture him as a good player, but it's difficult to get him back. Not just financially, but also from the point of view of expectations.
"Players develop and change. In the end, you could end up doing more damage than you can win, so I'm not really a fan of return."
On Xhaka's current situation at Arsenal, he added: "I am very sorry for him personally. In my view, it is incomprehensible.
"For me, it is totally incomprehensible from a distance, since I know that in England the fans always support their clubs and the players, especially their captain.
"Granit didn't go [to Arsenal] for nothing, but because he is a top professional. An emotional player who gives everything for his club."
