Granit Xhaka sends cryptic message to Arsenal fans after returning to action for Switzerland

Former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka has taken to social media to send a cryptic message to fans.

The Swiss international played his first minutes since the incident that saw him lose the captaincy at the Emirates Stadium, when he completed the full 90 minutes of his nation's European qualification victory over Georgia on Friday evening.

Xhaka has not played for Arsenal since his reaction to boos and jeers when he was substituted in the Premier League match against Crystal Palace last month.

The midfielder swore at fans, before putting his hands behind his ears and taking his shirt off before making his way down the tunnel at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal manager Unai Emrery has since taken the decision to take the captain's armband from Xhaka, who was only officially appointed at the start of the season, and give it to striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Games vs Wolves, Leicester, Liverpool and Vitoria have since passed without the midfielder in the Gunners squad.

After he turned out for his country, Xhaka has posted a message, written in German, on social media alongside a picture of him playing for his nation.

Arsene Wenger: Thierry Henry can bounce back

"Happiness is when you are satisfied with yourself and do not need the confirmation of others," he wrote.

It has been suggested that Xhaka has played his last game for Arsenal, and he has been linked with a January move to Newcastle United, among others.

Emery said that a decision over the player's future will be made after the international break.

"After the international break, I am going to speak to him again. The club is also speaking with him and we are going to decide how he is and how we are going to use him," the Arsenal boss said.
