Granit Xhaka's guidance of Reiss Nelson epitomised Arsenal's acceptance of Mikel Arteta's vision

Since arriving at the club in December 2019, Mikel Arteta has overseen rapid improvement at Arsenal in terms of what happens on the pitch.

There have without doubt been bumps along the way - the Europa League exit and start to post-lockdown football are examples - but for the most part, there has been a noticeable change in the way the side approach games.

One of the key aspects to this has been the defensive organisation which runs throughout the team. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang displayed just how important the work the forwards do is to Arteta with his opening goal against Norwich City but the voices behind him and Reiss Nelson in particular were just as important.

Here, football.london look at one of the moments you may not have been able to catch without being inside the stadium.

As touched on after the 4-0 victory, Arteta was constantly demanding his forwards "get in between" and "get inside" when pressing Norwich in the final third. What was more encouraging, however, was the way in which the Arsenal midfield and defence spoke in unison to remind them of their duties.

Nelson, for instance, was making his first start since football resumed on June 17. Within minutes of the game starting, he had begun following his pressing orders but it was Granit Xhaka who could be heard yelling: "Reiss, again! again!" when the 20-year-old may have thought his job was done.

With Arsenal conceding from a throw-in at Sheffield United, it was also interesting to hear what felt like at least five players call Nelson's name to remind him to pick up his man to avoid a quick option for Norwich.

The youngster wasn't just on the pitch taking instructions, however, as he did add some base to his own voice when he needed to keep his teammates on their toes.

Again at a throw-in, Dani Ceballos quite naturally retreated to take a deeper position but missed an open Norwich player as he passed. Nelson, accompanied by Xhaka gave the shouts "Dani! turn, turn!" and he slotted into a much better defensive position.

It's likely this level of communication was there pre-lockdown but the fact it's now audible gives a much clearer representation of how the squad on the whole are buying into Arteta's messages.

"They are completely on board with what we are trying to do, a lot of things have convinced them even more that this is the right direction to take as a team," the head coach said after Norwich.

"We still have to work on many things, the way we manage the game in certain moments. We cannot give anything to the opponent, we did that again tonight but overall I'm really happy with the attitude, the understanding of the game and what it requires to control it and expose it."
